The Apprentice and Trainee Grant for Small Business is a Tasmanian State Government grants program aimed at increasing the number of new apprentices and trainees employed by small businesses in Tasmania.
Is my business eligible as a Work & Training Host Business?
Your business may be eligible if:
- You are registered on the Australian Business Register.
- You are not be liable to pay Payroll Tax.
- Host the apprentice or trainee in a workplace physically located in Tasmania.
- The apprentice or trainee commenced in a valid training contract, dated on or after 1 January 2021.
- The apprentice or trainee is classified as a new worker on that training contract.
- The apprentice or trainee continue to be hosted by your business at the time of payment of the installments of the grant.
How much is the subsidy?
- The grant payable for each apprentice or trainee employed on a full-time basis is $5,000 (2 x $2,500).
- The grant payable for each apprentice or trainee employed on a part-time basis is $2,500 (2 x $1,250). Part-time includes school-based training contracts.
- Work & Training will be eligible to make a claim 6 months from commencement of the training contract and 12 months from commencement of the training contract.
- On receipt of the payment Work & Training will credit the amount received to the host employers account.
Anything else I should know?
- If the apprentice or trainee is employed by Work & Training we register and apply for the subsidy for you.
- Work & Training host businesses that receive the Federal Government Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements funding will still be eligible to apply for Apprentice and Trainee Grant for Small Business.
